The County of Gwynedd
The county of Gwynedd, in North Wales, includes a large part of the Snowdonia National Park, together with Snowdon itself, and the whole of the Isle of Anglesea. Snowdon is the highest mountain in England and Wales at 3560 feet.
This is spectacular countryside with, in fine weather, spectacular views for walkers and motorists and both should take care. The roads are winding and narrow enough in places that two vehicles cannot pass, frequently with stone walls on both sides, and although there are many easy footpaths some are much more precarious.
There are many picturesque small towns and villages with many points of interest from the visitors' point of view including the coast. Attractions include a narrow gauge steam railway that winds its way up into the mountains, slate mines, a medieval walled town with a castle, some fine beaches and legends galore.
